Don’t Waste Time – Use D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E.

Within Barrett Industries, our divisions are always looking to continuously improve our current processes. Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), can be defined as a discipline that helps a company improve its operational efficiency thru Lean Thinking. When using Lean Thinking, the group is taking a closer look into a process and identifying and removing wasteful steps. The Northeast (NE) Division of Barrett Paving Materials used Lean Thinking to help develop, strategize, and implement their CPI process named D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E.

During Barrett’s NE 16 Hour Supervisor Training, Mark Hartnagel trained all attendees on the new NE CPI process. Within the D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E process, there are 8 waste types that can exist:

  • Defects,
  • Over Production
  • Waiting
  • Non-Utilized Talent
  • Transport
  • Inventory
  • Motion
  • Extra Processing

By implementing this initiative, Barrett is encouraging its employees to recognize the waste within a job or process.

If you have a CPI process that you would like to submit, click here to use the Let’s Talk page or contact Mark Hartnagel at mhartnagel@barrettpaving.com.
